A Single Shard

A Shard By Linda Sue Park This book was great, it tells the story of a 13 year old boy named tree ear and his companion crane man.
One day Tree ear is strolling through the forest and finds a trail of rice and notices a farmer walking around a bend and waits for more rice to fall. Finally he told the farmer and the farmer said that if he wanted to go through the trouble he could pick up the rice and have it.
Tree ear likes to watch a skilled potter named Min make pots on a pottery wheel but one day he breaks one of Min's creations and owes Min nine days of work and after the nine days is up tree ear wants to make a pot so he keeps working for min in hopes that he can make a pot.
Finally Tree ear builds up enough courage to ask min if he could teach him how to make a pot and Min gets really frustrated and tells him that it only goes down from father to son and Min's son died of a bad bad bad fever and therefore min could not teach Tree Ear how to make a pot.
I think that anyone who likes historical fiction. I didn't really make a connection with the book but i liked it because it was exciting and adventurous. The characters are really wise and can be very funny.  They are kind and giving and they like to be friendly to everyone in the village.a quote from the book is"what goes around comes around". Because it is very true, say if you give a dollar soon enough you will get a dollar.
