The Alchemist (The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel)

The Alchemist

By Micheal Scott

Sophie and Josh were having an ordinary day, then they smelled the rotten eggs. Imagine your life completely changing in a matter of seconds. This book is a mix of Mythology, Sci-fi, and Fantasy. Once the action starts, it does not stop. Every single page has action. even when they start to think things are about to calm down. There is no turning back for Sophie and Josh.
Twins, Sophie and Josh are having a regular boring day at work. Then a black car pulls up by the bookshop where Josh works. Sophie was watching the whole scene from across the street at her job in the coffee shop. Then the smell of rotten eggs filled the air and soon Josh's boss, Nick Fleming, and a strange man started fighting with magic. The second that car pulled up, Sophie's and Josh's lives changed forever. They go on an adventure taking them to worlds that they didn't know existed, to creatures that only exist in myth, and to find out if they were truly the twins of prophecy.
Two of the characters are Sophie and Josh. Sophie is your average fifteen year old girl who works at a coffee shop. But her life changes. She now is learning the elemental magics and has memories that are not her own. Josh is your average fifteen year old football player who works at a bookstore. Then he finds out about Nick Fleming's true self. He is jealous of his sister's powers, which does not have yet, and is wary of Nick Fleming, not able to trust him.
I highly recommend this book, because it has a great plot and story line. It is so descriptive, that throughout the 350 or so pages, only one and a half days take place. Scott doesn't skip a single minute of the day. It goes right on. The story is amazing and I can relatee to it, I am a twin with a boy myself.
This book takes you to amazing places. It also teaches you a lot. You learn about basic mythology and a little about geography. It is also tells a little about science. but it mainly is a fantasy novel. An extraordinary fantasy novel.
"The two that are one, the one that is all." That is the beginning of the prophecy of the twins. I don't quite know what it means yet, but it seems all of the characters in the book do. This quote is said so many times, by so many different characters, in so many different ways, that there isn't just one way to describe it. To the twins it means their lives are changed forever. To Nick Fleming it means his time has come. To John Dee it means he has to take the twins for his own.
That is all I will say without giving away everything. I hope you enjoy this book if you read it someday.

  1. Sometimes I am jealous of my sisters too! They are younger than me so they have less homework, chores, and responsibility. This sounds like an amazing book!

  3. That is amazing that some ones life can change because of a smell. This sounds like a great and descriptive book. I am curious to see how this author puts so much detail in to so little an amount of time
