The herons a band of outcasts led by Hal they go through many trials and to see if they make it out you will have to read this book.
The Outcasts is about Hal and his friends as they go through brotherband camp and they face many challenges. Brotherband camp is about bonding with your crew mates so you work together well. The book opens about some Skanadians raiding a town next it is 10 years after and it explains all the characters. Next Hal is in brotherband training and is the leader of his ragtag group of outcasts (see what the book did there).
The book is very fun and i loved reading about Hal a creative thinker whose father died in battle. Stig is Hals best friend and extremely loyal he loses his temper easily though. Thorn is a drunk who Hals father used to raid with Hal then throws water on him at the request from his mother and gets his life in track.
A quote i really like from the book was "you can always win points winning peoples respect is a lot more important". I think this is true it is a lot better to win peoples respects rather than a game. This is also what brotherband training is supposed to do for you i t teaches you how to win respect.
This book was really great and i really liked it is kinda like his other series but with different characters and boats. This book was also good because it is about Hal who is very wimpy half Arulen so he gets picked on sometimes but he soon rises up as a leader.

I have read this book and have loved it. i think it is true that it is more important to win someones respect than win a game. i think that it is cool that Hal turns into a leader and can lead them to suceed.
